While many of us are aware of the unpleasant struggles of life, there is a huge chunk of the world still standing at the Red Sea waiting anxiously for the mighty hand of God to roll back the waters and make a way. God rolled back the waters for 21 families this season.

Sarah and Joshua Jeffery were one of these families. After barely scraping together enough money to fly to Portland to be with her father before he passed away, Sarah’s job refused to pay her for time off. Joshua is a full-time grad student at Vanderbilt, and together, they are raising a 9 year old special needs child. With the loss of Sarah’s father and funds depleted, it was nearly impossible to place an amount on how to help this family. One thing was certain and that was that anything would be a blessing to them at this point.

Another woman who was graciously blessed by this outpouring was Amy Rish. When we first met Amy she suffered from depression and was seriously contemplating suicide. Amy was baptized in September and desperately needed a place to live. Currently working for Chic- Fil-A in Cool Springs mall, Amy needed a hand in gathering enough funds for the initial costs of renting her own apartment. Any amount would have helped Amy in this unfortunate event in her life.

Velicia Ott, a single mother who was struggling to provide food for her family, gave birth to her second child in December of 2013. Kaiden (her second child), was born with HLHS. Since birth, Kaiden has undergone two open heart surgeries, a heart cath, and stomach/g-tube surgery. Velicia has since been unable to work and struggling more than ever to provide for her family. Velicia had searched for help, but was unable to find it. What was on its way was nothing shy of a tremendous blessing from God for Velicia and her little ones.

These are just three of the amazing stories of the 21 families that were reached by this incredible blessing. After providing them with food, clothing, beds, toys, and other items; we stood outside serving them hot chocolate and wrapping their gifts. We kept parents from having to have the hard conversation with their children about why there were no Christmas gifts. We witnessed a woman become so emotional that she cried helplessly after a microwave was added to her order at the checkout. Families felt guilty for buying things that seemed “excessive” like Bounty paper towels versus store brand. The humility in which these families shopped was heartwarming to say the least.

As a family of people looking to branch out into the community and serve God by serving others, Well House Church was just as blessed as these families to have this blessing fall into our laps. This is just the kind of thing we love to do. We love to help people and we love to love people. You could say that 22 families were blessed by this outpouring.

A common theme throughout the bible is that God always makes a way right on time. When Moses was standing at the Red Sea, He made a way. When Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac, He made a way. When these families were in that moment of crumbling faith, defeat, and despair, He made a way—right on time.
